JOB TITLE: Electrician Journeyman Maintenance Department REPORT TO: Foreman Electrical WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt PAY GRADE: Aux 9
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Journeyman Electrician is involved in the installation, maintenance, repair, or modification of all electrical systems, circuits, and equipment. Performs related work required. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High School graduate or GED
- An acceptable four year apprenticeship electrical training program, plus valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician’s License
- Valid Texas Driver’s license
Preferred:
- Five+ years of experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Possess knowledge and skill of the equipment, methods, materials, practices, and tools used in the Electrical trade.
- Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions
- Ability to practice safety precautions, including the use of power tools and equipment consistent with the electrical trade
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer’s manuals
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Cooperates and supports in the performance of electrical duties necessary to keep the District physical facilities in good repair and in use for their intended purpose.
- Participates in the installation and repair and wiring, load centers, switch panels, and electrical controls.
- Participates in the installation of new or updated electrical equipment.
- Completes preventative maintenance inspections of equipment as assigned.
- Ensure the proper electrical repair parts, equipment, and tools are available at the work site.
- Prepares all assigned tasks to ensure safe, effective, and efficient completion of all job assignments.
- Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, and insures compliance with those in the performance of assigned work tasks.
- Is responsible for maintaining a current Journeyman Electrician’s license and completing an annual Code Update Course.
- Actively participates and completes formal training in electrical codes, equipment, tools, and methods. Continually improves technical knowledge through independent research and study.
- Responds to emergency call-outs, as required. (7 days a week/24 hours a day).
- May be required to work night and/or varying shifts.
- Keeps vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
- Follows all safety regulations related to any and all trade areas.
- Performs other general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to:
- Moving furniture and equipment
- Responding to emergency or crisis situations in the District
Audio/Visual Demands:
- Average hearing
- Corrected 20/20 vision
- Good depth perception

Personal Protective Equipment:
- Rubber gloves and goggles are required when working with any chemicals
- Back support belts should be worn when lifting.
Required Training:
- 1st day orientation – Hazardous Communications/MSDS/Fire safety/Proper Lifting Techniques/Eye Safety
- Within the first 90 days, will attend 2-hour Asbestos Training Awareness
- On-going Staff Development
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following: the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment efficiently and effectively with frequent interruptions. The job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand motions; and prolonged use of a computer. Overtime is required as necessary.
