PAY GRADE: A12

 

 


PRIMARY PURPOSE:  

 

The Student Support Specialist, dual reporting to the Campus Principal and the District RtI Coordinator, will serve to increase the academic achievement and reduce the drop-out rate of “at risk” students. The Student Support Specialist will provide students with comprehensive, coordinated, integrated, and customized supports that are accessible, timely, and strength-based so they can achieve in school.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification

Preferred:

  • Five years of classroom experience

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: 

  • Thorough understanding of state and federal accountability
  • Comprehensive knowledge of state assessments
  • Knowledge of the district’s curriculum
  • Knowledge of the district’s behavior management system
  • Detail oriented and able to handle deadline pressures
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Quality oral presentations and written reports

MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Monitor coding of “at-risk” student information in collaboration with administration as it relates to demographics and special programs
  • Assume responsibility for the Collaborative Student Support Team and process
  • Monitor students within the Collaborative Student Support Process both academic and behavior
  • Monitor “at-risk” students for the purpose of determining the appropriate interventions
  • Maintain records of student progress, interventions used, programs both individualized/differentiated and the successful instructions used
  • Conduct data analysis of student performance data to provide guidance to the Collaborative Student Support Team and Professional Learning Teams
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop effective whole group practices, small group interventions, and individualized learning activities
  • Support teachers in differentiating plans for students based on their unique learning profiles so that all students are engaged and challenged and each student achieves dramatic gains
  • Assist teachers with tracking data to determine the effectiveness of interventions
  • Assist teachers with instructional strategies to alleviate the achievement gap between children at risk of dropping out of school and their peers
  • Support and monitor school and programs of the at-risk student population including: English Language Learners, pre-kindergarten, discipline, and repeat failures for continuous growth
  • Train teachers to understand, disaggregate, and use student achievement data to enhance their instruction and Professional Learning Communities
  • Participate in ongoing meetings, trainings, and/or professional development in order to better support the school’s collaborative Student Support process.
  • Assist the campus with state and federal compliance
  • Provide additional academic intervention supports to identified students as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
