JOB TITLE:                       Dietitian
REPORTS TO:                 Coordinator of Nutrition and Menu Planning
WAGE/HOUR STATUS:    Exempt
PAY GRADE:                     AM2


PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Dietitian is responsible for maintaining special diet modifications for food allergies and disabilities, aiding in marketing and promotion for the department, assisting in taste tests, assisting in menu development while maintaining compliance with USDA guidelines, and providing nutrition education as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Required:


• Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or related area degree from an accredited college or university
• Registered and Licensed Dietitian

Preferred:
• Previous nutrition or dietetic experience preferred preferably in a public school setting.
• Experience in food service
• Experience writing menus


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:


• Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws, regulations, policies and best practices in areas of child nutrition programs and operational procedures as they pertain to school districts.
• Knowledge of good nutrition standards for K-12 student population, quality of food preparation, and service, food handling, safety and sanitation and techniques.
• Knowledge of special dietary requirements for students with diabetes, food allergies, cardiac and other medical conditions where diet is a concern to student health.

• Ability to produce documents using word processor, spreadsheet, and slideshow software.
• Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Strong technology skills including technology integration

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Special Diets

 

• Process and maintain all special diets.

• Rollover diets each year and check routinely for school changes/transfers and account deactivations.

• Create menus each year for all diets requiring menus.

• Answer phone calls and questions about special diets and menus.

• Coordinate puree diets and trainings with district SLP.

• Train staff on handling special diet menus in their kitchens.

• Create and update carb counts for nurses and website.

• Create and update menu item allergen list for website.

• Communicate with nurses about current diet modification approvals and any menu changes to be aware of for diabetic students. Marketing & Promotions

• Assist in promotion development and training, signage, and events.

• Market promotions in schools, on the website, and through social media.

• Work with parents, faculty, staff and student groups to promote an understanding of Child Nutrition programs.

• Assist in creating events for USDA and TDA promotions and challenges.

• Assist in utilizing the Go, Glow, Grow Bus for events and nutrition education.

• Help to coordinate and participate in community events. Nutrition Education

• Provide Nutrition Education as needed.

• Prepare nutrition education articles for Child Nutrition website.

• Tweet nutrition sound bites on the Child Nutrition twitter.

 

Menus

 

• Assist in organizing and executing student Taste Tests.

• Assist in reviewing and updating standardized recipes, menu, and food production record data base via Primero software.

• Assist with reviewing completed food production records.

• Participates with food brokers and manufacturers to acquire information on new products.

• Assist in taking pictures and developing picture instructions for the package guide.

• Assist in monitoring packaging and line set-up in the cafeterias.

 

Inventory Management & Ordering

 

• Coordinate and track all food promotions and manufacturer rebates.

• Assist with training on inventory management at the school level.

• Assist with managing frozen warehouse inventory.

• Help maintain sample freezer inventory.

• Develop and maintain relationships with food distributors in order to facilitate delivery schedules, serve as back-up person for all ordering procedures.

• Assist with development and proofing of monthly Ordering/Events calendar. Other duties as assigned
