PRIMARY PURPOSE:


The Houston Education Research Consortium (HERC) liaison manages and coordinates the
activities of the HERC on behalf of the district as part of a research-practice partnership. The
HERC liaison coordinates with district stakeholders and university researchers on the design,
execution, data needs, and analysis of educational research for districtwide strategy planning and
decision-making. The liaison also applies in-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal
accountability systems, assessment programs, district policies, programs, and strategic priorities
to ensure the activities of HERC support district research needs. This position is grant-funded for
a period of two years with the possibility of extension pending additional funding. The HERC
liaison will assist the Department of Student Assessment, Research, & Accountability in
performing data analysis and reporting, as well as conducting program evaluations and
developing data dashboards and surveys for the district.

Work is substantially complex and varied and regularly requires the selection and application of
technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply
the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes
recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following
physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying,
pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and
statewide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations;
ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply
knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written
communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
